COFFEYVILLE — Playing a tough course in windy conditions, Iola High’s golf team still managed to persevere and nab second place Tuesday at the Coffeyville Invitational.
Leading the way for the Mustangs was sophomore Drake Dieker, who took second overall with a score of 80.
“That shows you how tough the course was,” Mustang coach Doug Kerr said. “There just weren’t any scores in the 70s.”
Shane Walden placed sixth with an 87, while Kaden Macha scored a 90. Weston Hines carded a 93, Matt Jacobs a 96 and Adam Peterson, 98.
The Mustangs shot 348 as a squad, four strokes behind team champion Labette County.
“I told the guys before the round that the key was managing the course,” Kerr said. “That’s what we were able to do.”
