FORT SCOTT — Iola High’s junior varsity basketball teams are playing in the Fort Scott High Junior High Invitational. It is a round-robin event.
On Thursday, the Fillies’ junior varsity lost 61-22 to Chanute. Iola assistant coach Mark Percy said the inexperience of the younger Iola girls showed in the game.
Libby Shay fired in 16 points. Scoring two points each were Emily Ware, Katie Thompson and Emma Sigg.
“The girls played hard but could not handle the pressure Chanute put on us,” Percy said.
The Mustang junior varsity dropped a 34-22 decision to Chanute. They trailed 11-9 at halftime but a 13-1 third-quarter advantage for Chanute put Iola behind further.
“We played better than last Friday. Our defense was overall better. We need to finish shots offensively,” said Dan Berg, IHS assistant coach.
Garrett Catron led the Mustangs with seven points, followed by Tyler Powelson with six. Devin Conner scored four, followed by Mikal Bossell with two and Adam Kauth with one.
Iola’s junior varsities play two games each at Fort Scott Saturday.
