Iola junior varsity squads compete

Fillies come from behind to beat Wellsville, 8-7, after losing first game, 24-1. Boys win doubleheader, 10-4 and 13-4.

Jenna Curry’s two-run double in the bottom of the fourth propelled Iola High’s junior varsity to a come-from-behind, 8-7 victory over Wellsville.

The win gave the Fillies JV a split after Iola dropped the opener, 24-1.

Kadin Smith had a single and double for Iola in Game 1. Mia Shelby, Jadyn Kaufman, Jackie Fager, Kennedy Maier and Jilian Ward all had singles.

Shelby, Chloe Sell and Smith all had a single and double in the second game. Curry had a double. Maier and Ward added singles.

IN JV baseball action, Iola’s Brandon McKarnin had a home run and five RBIs to lead Iola High’s junior varsity baseball team to a 10-4 win over Wellsville Monday. 

The Mustang JV then used a teamwork approach to win the second contest, 13-4.

Korbin Cloud added a double and two RBIs in the opener. Landon Weide added a single and double. Carter Hutton and Mac Leonard each doubled as well. Cooper Riley and Briggs Michael both had singles.

McKarnin struck out eight batters in four innings of one-hit work from the mound. Payton Houk allowed two hits in his inning of relief.

Cloud pitched in Game 2, allowing one hit with six strikeouts.

Leonard had a double and single. Weide and Houk both smacked triples. Hutton and Ashton Hesse both doubled. Drake DeLaTorre and Charles Rogers both had singles.
