A community pep rally in advance of Friday’s homecoming contest between the Iola High Mustangs and the visiting Central Heights High Vikings will be tonight at Riverside Park.
The festivities kick off at 6:30 with skits prepared by players from each of the high school’s four grade levels.
In addition will be a number of games and contests among the players.
Spirit Week builds to a crescendo Friday, which will be capped with a parade around Iola’s downtown square at 2:20 p.m.
The homecoming king and queen will be crowned prior to the football game Friday.
In addition, Friday’s game will be “80s Night,” during which players who played for the Mustangs between 1980 and 1989 will be recognized. Trivia surrounding Iola’s 1980s era also will be featured.
Last, but not least, Iola will take on Central Heights in a pivotal Pioneer League contest. Iola remains unbeaten in league play — the Mustangs have yet to lose a league game after joining the new group in 2012.
