Throw out the excessive heat and the thunderstorm, and the 2010 SEK Swim League Championships went smoothly Saturday.
With about two hours of competition left, Iola had to send everyone home Saturday evening because of the storm. Everyone was back at Iola Muncipal Pool at 9 a.m. Sunday to finish up the league meet.
“All the coaches told us how well it went. They liked the way we had it set up,” said Emma Gilmore, Iola Swim Team co-head coach.
“We had so many swimmers which translated into a lot of heat races. So it was a long day Saturday.”
Officially, there were 435 swimmers, ages 4 to 18, competing in the SEK league meet.
In the A Division, Fort Scott won the team title with 2,111 points. Independence was second with 1,768.50 points. Iola’s Seahorses finished seventh with 827 points and Humboldt was eighth with 474 points.
Coffeyville won the B Division team title with 1,651 points with Cherryvale in second at 1,096. Humboldt was fourth with 1,006 and Iola took fifth with 923.50 points.
With the volume of results, the Register has the 10-and-under results in today for Iola and Humboldt. The results for 11-18-year old divisions will be in Tuesday’s Register.
Each age division has a high-point winner in A and B.
In the 6-and-under girls, Carys Gossett of Chanute was high point in A division. Madi White of Humboldt was fourth, Iola’s Jaci Gull finished fifth and Humboldt’s Gracie Schemper was ninth.
The B division 6-and-under girls’ high-point winners, there was a tie with 60 points each, were Carsyn Haviland of Humboldt and Jane Kerr of Fort Scott. Carissa Mattox of Hum boldt was fourth followed by her teammates Nautianna Goforth in seventh, Laken Hunterin eighth, Katie Scheimann in ninth and Gracie Schemper tied for 10th.
Kaylee Bolig of Independnece was the A division high-point girl in 7-8-year-old division. Humboldt’s Emma Johnson was ninth and Iola’s Autumn Johnson was 10th.
The B-Division title went to Bailey Price and Halle Herkelman, both of Coffeyville. Humboldt’s Alayna Johnson was third, Melanie Hallacy of Humboldt was sixth, Emma Johnson of Humboldt was eighth and Madelyn Proper of Humboldt was tied for 10th.
Ashleigh Woodworth of Erie and Kaitlyn Newton of Chanute each piled up 111 points to share the 9-10-year-old girls’ A Division high-point title. Iola’s Danielle Donnell tied with Graci Carr of Independence with 92 points each for third.
Grace Slaton of Coffeyville took the 9-10-year-old girls’ B Division honors. Humboldt’s Emily Proper was ninth and Iola’s Karly McGuffin was 10th.
On the boys’ side, Kam Koester of Chanute took the 6-and-under boys’ A Division title. Humboldt’s Maddox Johnson and Colton Johnson were fourth and fifth. Iola’s Caleb Donnell finished sixth.
The B-Division title went to Ephram Martindale of Coffeyville. Humboldt’s Evan Lucke tied for fourth.
In 7-8-year-old boys’ competition, the A-Division high-point swimmer was Nicholas King of Fort Scott. Humboldt’s Conor Eitel was ninth.
Iola’s Guiseppe Mangrella and Humboldt’s Andrew Kuhn tied for the high-point title in B Divison with 51 points each. Humboldt’s Drew Schoendaller tied for ninth.
Winning the 9-10-year-old boys’ A Division was Wyatt DeHaven of Fort Scott. Iola’s LeeRoi Johnson was fifth and Joe Kline of Humboldt was sixth.
The B-Division title went to Isaiah Moss of Fort Scott. Humboldt’s Calvin Schoendaller tied for sixth and Iola’s Isaiah Wicoff was 10th.
