WELLSVILLE — The Iola Mustangs have one last game before Saturday’s Pioneer League Middle School Tournament. The Mustangs host Santa Fe Trail Thursday.
The Iola Middle School eighth grade A-team won 48-22. The IMS seventh grade A-team lost 43-41 on a last-second buzzer beater.
Milo Franklin’s team-leading 11 points played a part in lifting Iola to victory in the finale. Jaxen Mueller posted 10 points, followed by Cade Curry and Jayson Dorius with six points each. With the win, the Mustangs improved to 9-2.
Despite falling by a buzzer-beater, dropping the seventh-grade A-team Mustangs to a 6-5 record, Iola had a pair of double-digit scoring performances.
Landon Desmarteau had a team-leading 19 points, followed by Colton Hall with 12 points.
In B-team action, the eighth grade edged Wellsville 31-30 off a pair of 10-point performances by Kaiden Jones and Chance Conley. With the win, they improved their record to 7-1.
The seventh-graders lost 23-19 in the opener. Austin Scroggins and Austin Cooper tied for the team lead in scoring with six points each.
