The Humboldt junior varsity football team fell in a close one at home to Pittsburg on Monday, 25-18.
The JV Cubs are now 2-2 this season.
Quarterback Isiah Coronado was slinging it, throwing for 124 yards and three touchdowns, all three to receiver Jackson Aikins who had three touchdown catches for 115 yards.
Cooper Jaro put up a more than solid rushing attack, carrying the ball 19 times for 143 yards.
Speed Hoepker  led the way defensively with 12 tackles while Aikins chipped in six.
Jaro had four tackles, Briar Orth had  three, Travis King had a tackle and a fumble recovery and Conor Haviland had two tackles and an interception.
“Our effort was pretty good most of the game,” coach Jeremy Weiland said. “We were down 13 with under two minutes to go in the game and we were able to drive 36 yards for a TD to cut the deficit to 7.  We were able to kick an onside kick with about 15 seconds left, but they recovered the kick. Briar played his best game of the season on defense and Cooper ran the ball hard.  We just had too many self induced errors.”
Humboldt will take on Fredonia at home next Monday.
