For the second straight game, offensive struggles hindered the Humboldt Lady Cubs. This time, it was in their 39-31 loss to Uniontown in the first round of their home preseason tournament on Tuesday.

The loss drops Humboldt to 0-2 after their loss at Eureka last Friday.

The Lady Cubs started the game in a rather large hole after scoring only a point in the first quarter which led them to trail 14-1 after the first quarter.

Humboldt continued to struggle offensively up until the 7:30 mark when senior Savanna Puckett got a lay-up and cut the Lady Eagles’ lead to 14-3. The Lady Cubs hit three more shots in the span of the quarter to go into halftime down 10, 22-12.

More shots continued to fall in the third quarter but with both teams scoring seven, the Lady Cubs’ deficit still stood at 10.

In the fourth quarter, Humboldt got Uniontown’s lead down to six before the Lady Eagles stretched it back out to 10. Humboldt was never able to mount any significant comeback.

Senior Maggie Johnson was the lone double-figure scorer with 10 points followed by fellow senior Aricah McCall who ended the night with nine. Junior Alayna Johnson had six, junior Winter Snyder had four and Puckett had two.

Humboldt will try to get something going again on Thursday when they face fellow winless team Crest in the second round of the tournament at 7 p.m.
