EMPORIA — Humboldt High’s first appearance at the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament will not extend to a second day.

The Lady Cubs dropped three matches in pool play Friday at Emporia’s White Auditorium, falling short of today’s medal round.

Humboldt opened the tournament with a straight-set loss to Thomas More Prep-Marian, the top-ranked Class 3A squad in the state, 25-19, 25-17.

Next up was Silver Lake. After dropping a nailbiter in the opening set, 25-22, Humboldt saw its chances to advance erased in the second set, 25-8.

Humboldt’s final match of the day was against Hesston, which had already secured a berth in today’s medal round. Hesston prevailed, 25-22, 25-10.

The loss ended the high school careers for three Humboldt seniors, Kira McReynolds, Tilar Wells and Annalise Whitcomb.
