LEON — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs found themselves back in the win column in a big way Tuesday.
Nine second-inning runs paved the way to a 19-6 romp over host Bluestem.
Then, after a wild start in Game 2, Humboldt settled down, breaking open an 11-7 lead with an 11-1 scoring margin over the last three innings of what became a 22-8 victory.
The sweep pushes Humboldt to 3-3 amid a busy schedule. The Lady Cubs were slated to play Chanute in a single game Wednesday before taking on Fredonia Thursday.
There was plenty of offense to be had as every Humboldt player recorded at least one hit or scored a run in both games.
Carlie Weilert paced the offense in the opener, collecting three hits, including a triple, while scoring three times. Leah Carman added a single and double with three RBIs. Hadley Galloway chipped in with a double and two RBIs. Laney Hull, Kamry De La Torre, Lakyn Meadows, Addisyn Drake and Kinley Hart added one single each.
Meadows and Hull were terrors on the basepaths, swiping four and three bases, respectively. Hart, Weilert, De La Torre and Skylar Hottenstein added two stolen bases, respectively.
Jo Ellison was the recipient as she pitched a five-inning complete game. She scattered eight hits, while striking out five.
HUMBOLDT appeared poised for the sweep, erupting for four in the first and seven more in the second to race to an 11-0 lead.
But Blustem got back into the proceedings with a seven-run second to pull back to within four.
But Ellison came on in relief to shut things down. She scattered three hits over four innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Jady Ellis got the start, allowing four hits over two innings with a strikeout.
Galloway doubled and singled twice and drove in a pair, while Drake singled three times, drove in three and scored three runs.
Weilert had a single and triple with three RBIs. De La Torre singled twice, drove in two and scored four times. Hottenstein added a pair of hits with three RBIs and two runs. Carman also had two singles. Meadows had a single and four runs.
