The Humboldt Lady Cubs won’t dwell on Thursday’s split at St. Paul for long, as Tri-Valley League rivals Neodesha and Caney Valley come to town Tuesday.

After opening Thursday’s action with a 25-19, 25-14 sweep of the St. Paul Indians, the Lady Cubs could not keep their momentum going against the Riverton Rams, who wrapped up the contest with a 25-15, 25-15 sweep of Humboldt.

In the opener, Humboldt senior Ricklyn Hillmon downed a team-leading 12 kills, followed by senior middle hitter Laney Hull with nine, then freshman outside hitter Jadey Ellis and junior setter Lakyn Meadows with three each. Senior libero Skylar Hottenstein had a hot hand behind the line with four aces. She also tied Meadows for the team lead in digs with seven each, followed by Hillmon and Hull with five each. Hillmon had a team-leading two blocks.

Against Riverton, Hillmon had a team-leading six kills, followed by Meadows and Ellis with two each. Hull accounted for a team-leading two aces, ahead of sophomore outside hitter Bailey Daniels and Hottenstein, who had one each. Hottenstein and Hull tied for the team lead in digs with 10 each. Hillmon ended the evening with Humboldt’s only digs with two.

Humboldt’s record now stands at 28-8. They will put their undefeated record in the Three Rivers League on the line Tuesday against Caney Valley and Neodesha. First serves for Friday’s triangular start at 4 p.m.
