HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Lady Cubs continue asserting themselves as the team to beat in the Tri-Valley League after sweeping Fredonia Thursday in a pair of mercy-rule victories 15-0 and 16-2.

With more than 30 runs scored over both contests, the Lady Cubs had a scoring bonanza as they improved their TVL record to 5-1 and 5-4 overall.

Humboldt junior starter Jo Ellison picked up the victory in the opener with six strikeouts over four innings while allowing just two hits and no walks.

Catcher junior Leah Carman had a team-leading four RBIs off two hits in four appearances, followed by junior third baseman Lakyn Meadows with three RBIs while successful in 1 of 3 at-bats. Senior second baseman Skylar Hottenstein and junior outfielder Carlie Weilert had a pair of RBIs each.

Fredonia scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap, but by that time Humboldt already had a seven-run lead.

Senior shortstop Laney Hull drove seven RBIs, followed by Meadows with five and Ellison with two RBIs. Meadows and Hull each had three hits.

Following the pair of blowout victories, the Lady Cubs look to keep their momentum going Thursday on the road against Burlington. First pitch for the opener is at 4:30 p.m.
