COLONY — Crest High’s girls turned to their signature defense to seal another win Tuesday.

The Lady Lancers throttled visiting Northeast’s offense from the opening tip, rolling to a 38-21 victory.

The win lifts Crest to 17-5, with one more regular season game to go Friday at home against Yates Center.

Crest also learned Wednesday it will be the third seed in the Class 1A-I Substate Tournament, which opens Tuesday. Crest has an opening round bye and will play either Norwich (14-8) or Pleasanton (8-13) on March 2.

The Lady Lancers relied on a balanced scoring attack against Northeast, utilizing a 13-4 second-quarter run to seize control.

The lead stood at 20-9 at the break and 29-13 after three periods.

Jaycee Schmidt and Aylee Beckmon shared scoring honors with seven points each. Kaelin Nilges, Josie Walter and Gracyn Ellington added six points each.
