Lydia Lance, who will be a junior at Marmaton Valley High School in the fall, won two gold medals and state championship titles at the Missouri Trampoline and Tumbling State Championships, May 1.
She won one gold on the trampoline level 8, which is for ages 15 and over. The second gold came in tumbling level 8, ages 15 and over.
Lance qualified for nationals in both events but missed qualifying on the double mini trampoline this year.
Lance competed in the Region 4 competition held in Normal, Ill, recently, at Illinois State University. She competed in tumbling, trampoline and double mini. She earned reserve regional champion and a silver medal on trampoline overall.
Lance earned the fifth-overall medal in tumbling. She did not qualify in the double mini.
In the trampoline there were 24 athletes in her group, 20 in tumbling and 36 in double mini from. Competitors came from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Lance practices three days a week at the Flip Shop in Joplin, Mo., under the direction of head coach Ted Johnson. Even though Lance is a resident of Kansas she must compete as a Missouri athlete since the team she belongs to is in Missouri.
Lance will compete in the National Junior Olympics in trampoline and tumbling at the end of June in Virginia Beach, Va. Her goal is to compete at a higher level next year, allowing her to compete internationally.
She is the daughter of Loren and Regena Lance Bronson, KS.
