MADISON — Crest High’s boys picked up a hard-fought road win Tuesday, topping host Madison, 61-51.
The Lancers won, despite being without the services of Landon Stephens, who was injured in a skiing accident, head coach Travis Hermreck said.
“This was a good win for us tonight,” Hermreck said. “We asked the kids to step into roles they aren’t used to. We got great play off the bench, and leaned heavily on our three leaders, Brock (Ellis), Austin (Green) and Hunter (Frazell).”
The trio rose to the challenge. Ellis poured in 25 points, Frazell scored 21 and Green had nine.
Crest led 19-15 after one quarter and 39-30 at halftime.
Neither offense did much in the third period. Ellis’ field goal was the only points for the Lancers, but Crest still maintained the lead because Madison had only six points in response.
“I’m proud of this win because the boys kept composed through tough stretches and really clawed one out,” Hermreck said.
The Lancers sealed the win by draining 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Dallas Thompson led Madison with 14 points. Owen Reed followed with 11.
In girls action, Madison defeated the Lady Lancers, 77-23. No other details were available.
