LIBERAL, Mo. — In what head coach Travis Hermreck described as a character-building night, Crest High’s boys bounced back from a disappointing loss one night earlier in fine fashion.
The Lancers downed Golden City, 62-52, in the second round of the Tony Dubray Classic, hosted by Liberal High School.
Crest took control in the second half, outscoring Golden City 31-20 after intermission.
“After our performance (Tuesday), I was very proud of how the boys bounced back,” Hermreck said. “Our foundation was shaken a little, but the boys showed their true character tonight.”
Austin Green led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Brock Ellis was a monster underneath with 12 points, 18 rebounds, five blocks and seven assists. Hunter Frazell added 12 points. Landon Stephens chipped in with four steals.
Crest went 23 of 43 from the free throw line; Golden City, 12 of 29.

CREST’S GIRLS dropped a 56-20 decision to Northeast-Arma in their tournament game.
Northeast led 16-6 after one period and 39-11 at halftime.
Crest will wrap up tournament play on Friday. The Lady Lancers will take on Golden City at 4 p.m., while Crest will take on Thomas Jefferson at 8:30.
