COLONY — The Crest Lancers remain undefeated after sweeping the Pleasanton Blu-Jays 19-2 and 12-11 Thursday.
After the 19-2 opener, the Lancers had to fend off a Pleasanton rally in the second as they improved their record to 4-0 overall in the Tri Valley League.
Crest senior pitcher Drake Weir recorded nine strikeouts despite pitching only three innings in the mercy-rule shortened opener. As Weir shined on the mound, the Lancers lit up the scoreboard with eight runs in the opening frame, then 10 runs in the third.
Weir was also Crest’s hottest bat with a team-leading five RBIs while successful in 2 of 2 at-bats. Freshman first baseman Brantlee Jones was also perfect in the batter’s box while driving in three runs with hits in 3 of 3 at-bats. Sophomore Kole Walter and senior third baseman Jensen Barker both drove in a pair of runs.
The Lancers benefited from a bit of Lady Luck in the finale after a miffed fly-ball allowed Weir to score the walk-off run on a hit by freshman catcher Andrew Donovan.
Before the seventh, the Lancers and Blu-Jays were in a back-and-forth battle — matching run-for-run until the Lancers scored the final one.
Barker had a team-leading three RBIs while hitting in 2 of 3 at-bats. Weird drove in two while hitting in 2 of 3 at-bats. Sophomore outfielder Koiy Miller and Donovan had one RBI each. The Lancers featured five pitchers on the mound Thursday. Sophomore reliever Will Disbrow had a team-leading four strikeouts, followed by starter Barker with three and Miller with two.
The Lancers host another TVL foe in the Northeast Vikings Monday. First pitch for the opener in the doubleheader is at 3:30 p.m.
