HUMBOLDT — Racing fans not only got their usual jolt of action from regular drivers at Humboldt Speedway Friday night, the Show-Me Racing Series Late Models were featured.
Being good on the track is part of the winning combination but luck figures in also. Chad Wheeler charged from the back of the pack as race leader Brandon Hunter began to fade.
Hunter led the 21-car field with three laps to go but following a caution flag, Hunter’s car had a mechanical problem. Hunter stayed on the track but lost his lead and the race.
Wheeler took advantage and claimed the victory in the Show-Me Racing Series Late Models feature race. Leslie Essary finished in the runner-up spot and Justin Wells was third. Hunter ended up fourth and Rex Merritt rounded out the top five.
Johnny Bone Jr. tracked down and passed runner-up Terry Beckham II for the modified A feature race victory. Dustin Boney ran third followed by Scott Daniels and Justin Folk.
Jeremy Wilson notched another one in his growing victory list in the Speedway’s factory stock division. He beat Ethan Lamons to the finish line.
Brandon Tindle rallied to take third place in factory stock. Brandon Weide came across in fourth followed by Derek Yocham.
Blake Kisner, Jeremy Willard and Derek Michael staged a highly contested battle up front in the pure stock feature race. Kisner got past Willard then passed race-leader Michael to claim the victory.
Willard ended up second followed by Michael. Levi Phillips finished fourth and Matthew Kay ran fifth.
Tim VanGotten added another race trophy to his collection, winning the B-Mod feature race. Riley Whitworth ran a strong runner-up race followed by Jeremy Chambers, Dalton Kirk and Terry Bruner.
