HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High School and Middle School hosted a cross country invitational at Humboldt Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday morning with local schools Crest and Marmaton Valley in the mix.

Humboldt

The Lady Cubs varsity runners ran their 5K with four racers. McKenna Jones, Anna Heisler and Carsyn Haviland each medaled.

Jones came in 11th place with a time of 24:02 and Heisler finished with a time of 25:40 which was good for 16th place. Haviland placed 17th with a time of 26:07 and Danica Modlin finished in 31st place with a time of 30:47.

The varsity boys finished in fourth place as a team in the 5K race and had six runners compete. Both Peyton Wallace and Landon Bauer medaled, coming in sixth and 18th place, respectively. Wallace finished with a time of 20:31, while Bauer finished with a time of 22:05.

“The kids from every school ran hard and persevered, running full distance races,” said Humboldt head coach Eric Carlson. “Landon Bauer earned a 33 second PR.”

The final four runners included Brigg Shannon placing in 30th with a time of 25:35 and Caden Vink coming in 32nd place with a time of 27:53. Gavin Jaro placed 33rd with a time of 28:37 while Layne Ellison finished 37th with a mark of 32:10.

Three middle school runners competed in the two-mile race including seventh grader Carter Collins and eighth graders Thatcher Mueller and Jack Works. Works came in 14th with a personal-record time of 16:35.

“I was pleased with our performances and greatly impressed by Jack Works with a 2-second PR,” said Carlson.

Collins finished in 15th place in the seventh grade race with a time of 17:54 and Mueller medaled after finishing in seventh place with a time of 14:39 in the eighth-grade race.

The early start time of 10 a.m. was due to the KSHSAA rules of heat index in school sports.

“Not all of our kids ran as some were at other school activities or were sick,” said Carlson. “I was happy we were able to have the meet. Had we waited later in the day, it would have been too hot based on KSHSAA rules.”

Humboldt High School will now race at Rim Rock on Saturday. Humboldt Middle school will run at Columbus next Tuesday afternoon.

Marmaton Valley

The Marmaton Valley Wildcats had one varsity boy runner race at Humboldt. Zach Allee took 20th place and medaled with a time of 23:11. Wildcat Kiowa Bloemer did not race due to an illness.

Sophia Heim competed in the junior varsity race. Heim came in fourth place, earning her a medal in the 5K race with a time of 30:46.
