Multiple area wrestlers medaled while kicking off the 2025 season at the 25th annual Burlington Cat Classic Tuesday night.
For Iola, Axtin Christensen, 237 lbs., and Milo Franklin, 134 lbs., Iola, took first and second respectively in their weight divisions.
For Humboldt, heavyweight Orval LeClair took third while taking the mat for the first time. The heavyweight division is between 275 and 293 lbs. A few weight classes higher, Daegan Rodriguez, 187 lbs., took third.
Christensen had a 3-0 decision over teammate Gabe Klubek, then defeated another teammate, Jaxon Bernstein, 5-0. Bernstein took second with a 3-0 victory over Klubek.
Franklin had a 14-0 technical fall loss to Carson Slayman of Osawatomie but rebounded with a victory over Wesley Cowen of Uniontown.
Rodriguez had a 11-0 technical fall by Jett Campbell of Wellsville, then fell 3-0 to Blaine Hathaway of Uniontown before rebounding with a 13-4 rout of Bluestem’s Luke Turner.
