Marmaton Valley Junior High volleyball team competes in Uniontown

The Wildcats went 2-2 in tournament

Marmaton Valley Junior High’s Volleyball team finished off a busy flurry of activity.

On top of their games Thursday, the Wildcats were in Uniontown Saturday for a tournament before taking on Pleasanton and Southeast  of Cherokee in a triangular Monday.

On Saturday, the Wildcats went 2-2, defeating Uniontown, 25-16 and 25-11, and Jayhawk-Linn, 25-13, 23-25 and 15-10; and losing to Yates Center, 25-15 and 25-17 and Crest, 25-20 and 25-21.

Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Jacee Mattox, 35 points, Kylah Sander, 24, Shelby Sprague, 22, Braelyn Sutton, 15, Andie Carr, nine and Taelyn Blevins, seven.

On Monday, the Wildcat A team defeated Southeast after dropping the first set, 25-10. Marmaton Valley prevailed in sets 2 and 3, 25-9 and 15-9.

Sander had 14 points, while Mattox had seven, Sprague 3, Sutton, two and Carr and Blevins one each. Sutton also had a number of key blocks and tips, head coach Brenda Mills said.

“The girls stepped up and came back and played some good ball,” Mills said. “It was a team effort.”

Marmaton Valley’s B team also played Monday, defeating Pleasanton, 25-23 and 25-22 before losing to Southeast, 25-12 and 25-15.

Individual statistics were unavailable, but top servers for the Wildcats were Gabby Briggs, Addisyn Drake, Mayla Beal, Layla Cook and Jetta Mathews.
