MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s basketball teams had a tough go of it Monday as they opened the 2025-26 season.

The Wildcat boys went 1-2 on the night, falling in A and C team action, while prevailing in the B team affair against visiting Galesburg.

Marmaton Valley’s girls dropped both of their contests to tip off the season.

Galesburg’s A team girls pulled away after halftime to open with a 28-10 victory.

Layten Blevins and Kloie Snavely paced Marmaton Valley with five and four points, respectively. Kimbree Daum chipped in with a free throw.

Ellie Dillenger scored 15 points for Galesburg to lead all scorers.

In the B team contest, Galesburg raced to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 22-10 victory.

Ellie Stinnett and Blevins scored four apiece for Marmaton Valley. Snavely added two.

Kenzee Showater’s 10 points paced Galesburg.

ON THE BOYS’ side, neither team did much through the first half, as Galesburg entered the locker room with a 3-2 lead. But an 11-2 Galesburg run in the third quarter spelled the difference in a 23-14 victory.

Zayne Endicott and Jaren Curl scored four apiece for Marmaton Valley. Daniel Allee, Anthony Sander and Kaiden Woods each scored two.

Marmaton Valley’s B team held Galesburg scoreless through the first half, carrying a 9-0 lead into the locker room.

The Timberwolves found their stride in the third quarter, but Marmaton Valley did just enough to stay in front to win, 20-18.

Ryler Stone scored 10 points, including 5 of 8 free throws in the second half to lead Marmaton Valley. Endicott followed with four points, and Case Drake, Asher Stone and Lucas Sander had two each.

The Timberwolves held Marmaton Valley’s C team scoreless through two quarters in a 6-0 victory.

Marmaton Valley will host Central Heights Thursday.
