MORAN — The Marmaton Valley Lady Wildcats were handicapped before the game even started Friday, with two starters out, and a tough West Elk team to boot. MARMATON Valley’s boys had another rough go at it Friday, in a 59-11 loss to West Elk. ON Thursday, Marmaton Valley’s girls fell to Olpe, 58-18. In boys’ action, Olpe downs MV, 57-14. OLPE’S BOYS held Marmaton Valley scoreless until the second quarter.
They fell, 36-14, to wrap up their preseason tournament. Sophomore Ashlynn Pinkerton was out due to illness, and sophomore Mackenzie Tynon was out due to a knee injury suffered during practice Thursday.
“It was inexperience in general that got us,” head coach Gavin Cole said. The two starters’ absences were noticeable.
The Patriots led at halftime, 19-5.
Misty Storrer and Kyla Drake led the Wildcats with five points apiece.
The Lady Wildcats play Jayhawk-Linn at Mound City on Tuesday.
The Wildcats’ JV squad dropped a contest against the West Elk JV Tuesday evening as well, 13-6. Tanna Lutz, Lauren Korte and Magie Stevenson had two points apiece.
West Elk went up 36-4 going into the half.
Michael Genn and Keagan Boyd led in the scoring column with four points apiece. Brady Newman had three.
The Wildcats travel to Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday.
Olpe’s girls led 17-5 after one quarter, 38-11 at halftime and 50-13 by the end of the third period.
Mackenzie Tynon scored eight points to lead the Wildcats. Emily Meiwes followed with four. Kyla Drake and Kaitlin Ensminger scored three each.
Elena Flott’s game-high 25 points paced Olpe. Kelsey Hendricks followed with 10.
The Eagles led 19-0 after one quarter and 33-6 at hafftime. Olpe pushed out to a 49-6 lead after three periods.
Micheal Genn scored eight for the Wildcats. Joe Jefferis and Noah Foster both had three.
Bo Krueger’s 22 points led Olpe.
