Marmaton Valley, Yates Center split baseball doubleheader

Yates Center's offense dictated their opener against Marmaton Valley Thursday, but MV's pitching settled down nicely to win the second dame.

YATES CENTER —  Yates Center High’s offense was clicking from the start in the first game of their doubleheader against Marmaton Valley Thursday.

Yates Center scored 11 runs in the first inning of their 22-7 victory.

But Marmaton Valley responded nicely in the nightcap, pushing across five runs in the third inning of an 8-6 victory.

In the opener, Chase Smith tripled in a run and then scored on Wyatt Ard’s home run for a 3-0 lead. But Yates Center was not to be denied, racking up 16 hits over three innings. Chayse Hobbs had two doubles and a triple to lead the way. Emmett Brittain had a double and a home run. Jayston Rice notched two singles and a double. Sean Hurst and Jacob Meigs both singled twice. Emmit George and Preston Hurst both had singles.

Dylan Drake added a single for Marmaton Valley, which found its offensive groove in the nightcap.

Robert Cook singled twice and blasted a home run for the visitors in game 2, while Drake singled twice and tripled. Chase Smith doubled twice. Ian Bostic registered a double. Adams had a pair of singles. Dominic Smith singled, as did Ard.

Sean Hurst had a triple for Yates Center. George and Meigs both singled.

Yates Center hosts Altoona-Midway Monday. Marmaton Valley returns to action Monday at home against Northeast-Arma.
