RICHMOND — Opening the 2010 track season strong were Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats.
The Wildcat squads competed at Thursday’s Central Heights High Invitational. The Wildcat boys finished fifth out of 11 teams.
“The kids all performed very well. It was a great start for all of us,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVHS track coach.
Kurtis LaRue claimed a gold medal in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, running the race in 43.2 seconds.
LaRue was also third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.7 seconds. LaRue finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8 inches.
In the long distance races, Zach Louk placed second in the 3200-meter run in 11 minutes, 10 seconds. Louk took fourth in the 1600-meter run in 5:20.
Tanner McNutt ran second in the 400-meter dash in 56.3 seconds. McNutt combined with Jacob Conkling, Carlos Gonzales and Shawn Storrer to take fifth place in the 4×400-meter relay race in 4:08.9.
Storrer finished third in the javelin with a throw of 126’8”. Kaleb Stroud was fifth in the discus at 107’3 3/4”. McNutt placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 40’ 3/4”.
Mercedes Trollope turned in the top performance for the Wildcat girls. Trollope was fourth in the triple jump at 28’4”.
Lydia Lance placed sixth in the long jump at 13’10”. Rachel Boyd was sixth in the shot put at 26’8”
Marmaton Valley goes to Frontenac next Thursday.
Humboldt High’s track teams were at Central Heights also Thursday but the Register did not receive a report from Humboldt by today’s press time.
