Multiple sporting events planned for Monday took a backseat as road crews cleared the snow that fell over the weekend.

The rivalry game between the Allen Community College Red Devils and the Neosho County Community College Panthers will have to wait until Feb. 2.

The men’s team was set for a battle for the top spot in the Jayhawk Conference standings. The Red Devils (11-7, 2-1) were to enter the contest winning two of their last three games, including an upset of Kansas City Kansas Community College (11-10, 0-3) to open the new year.

Neosho (10-9, 1-1) was on a three-game win streak until Jan. 17, when they lost to Fort Scott (10-9, 2-1).

The female Red Devils will also wait until Feb. 2. Hot off upsetting 15th-ranked KCKCC (13-6, 1-2), then routing Jayhawk Conference rival Labette (2-11, 0-3),

Monday’s match-up would have between  Allen (11-5, 3-0) and Neosho (12-7, 2-0) breaking into the NJCAA top 25 rankings at points this season.

The women tip-off at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.

In high school sports, the Humboldt High School Lady Cub wrestlers were set to compete at the Fort Scott Girls Mixer, but that, too, was canceled.

Tournament officials announced there will not be a make-up date for the tournament.

Humboldt returns to the mat this weekend for Saturday’s Fredonia Invitational.
