CHANUTE — Iola High’s tennis duo of Bryan Mueller and Colby Works wrapped up the regular season in style Friday, winning the No. 1 doubles bracket at the Chanute Invitational

The pair, who have accumulated a 22-3 record on the season, won all four of their matches, including against teams from perennial power Paola.

“All of the guys did very well,” head coach Joe Turner said. “Bryan and Colby continue to work well together.”

The Mustangs took home first place as a team at the Chanute tournament.

Isaiah Fawson, in No. 2 singles, took home third, as did Iola’s No. 2 doubles team of Mason Key and Rhett Allen. Both went 2-1 on the day.

No. 1 singles player Tyler Heinrich — matched up against the best individual players of the other schools — went 1-2 to take sixth.

“The guys get a chance to collect themselves for Regionals,” Turner said.

The Class 4A Regionals, which determines which teams head to state, will be May 9- 10 in Chanute.
