CHANUTE — Iola High’s junior varsity baseball team dropped two games Tuesday, falling to host Chanute, 7-4 and 7-2.
The Mustangs led 3-0 after their half of the first inning, but it didn’t last.
Chanute scored twice in the bottom of the first, tied the score in the second, then took the lead for good with a two-run third. Iola closed to within 5-4 in the top of the fourth, but Chanute plated two in its half of the inning for the final score.
Thealvin Minor took the loss, surrendering nine hits with three strikeouts.
Kohl Endicott had two singles. Alex Bauer, Minor, Ethan Sigg, Brett Taylor and Wyatt Hines singled once apiece.
Iola fell behind 2-0 in the second game before tying the game with two in the top of the second. Chanute responded with a five-run third.
Bauer pitched, giving up five hits with two strikeouts. Endicott, Keanan Badders and Hines had one single apiece. Brice Aiello rapped out two hits.
