Mustang JV wins two over Buffalos

Iola High’s Mustang junior varsity picked up two more wins at home Thursday. One came realitively easy, 14-4, and the other not so easy.

Tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the fifth — and last — inning, the Mustangs had to produce. Alex Bauer led off with a single then Thealvin Minor reached on an interference call. Bauer was tagged out going to third base.

Drew Faulhaber beat out a bunt for a base hit. With two gone, Aaron Barclay singled in the winning run.

Iola won 2-1 over Prairie View High’s Buffalos in junior varsity action. 

Trent Latta pitched four scoreless innings for Iola, allowing three hits and walking one. He racked up 10 strikeouts.

Cole Morrison came in to pitch the fifth, gave up one run on one hit and struck out one. Barclay finished the fifth on the mound, striking out one.

Bauer was 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles and a double. Tyler Clubine and Brock Peters each had a single for the other hits in the game.

In the first game, Minor was the winning pitcher going five innings. Minor allowed four runs on seven hits, one walk and one hit batter. He struck out one.

Shae Beasley worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning and had a strikeout.

Iola scored five runs in the second inning and led 8-4 at the end of five. The teams played a sixth inning and Iola produced six more runs.

Austin Snyder and Barclay each had a single and a double. Faulhaber doubled as did Minor. Hitting a single each were Eric Heffern, Latta and Beasley.
