tangs warmed up for Tuesday’s Pioneer League championship game with a 20-0 victory over Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville Friday.

Sophomore outfielder Brooklyn Holloway had a breakout performance with five RBIs in the three-inning contest while sophomore pitcher Zoie Hesse gave up one hit in the two-inning shutout while tallying four strikeouts.

Holloway picked up her first RBI while putting Iola on the scoreboard in the opening frame with a line-drive single. The Mustangs busted the game wide open in the second inning with a slew of bases loaded by walks allowing Iola to build a comfortable lead before benefiting from an RBI from virtually every player in the lineup.

Holloway ended the night with a team-leading five RBIs. Senior shortstop Elza Clift was not far behind with four RBIs, followed by senior third baseman Harper Desmarteau and Hesse with two each.

With the win, the Mustangs extended their winning streak to 11 games and and a 15-4 overall record.

They play for the Pioneer League title Tuesday, when they host Santa Fe Trail.

If Iola sweeps Santa Fe, the Mustangs win the title outright. If they split the doubleheader, they come away with a portion of the league title.

First pitches for Tuesday’s doubleheader are 4:30 and 6 p.m.
