Mustangs finish in middle

PITTSBURG — Iola High’s Mustangs were in the middle of the pack at Tuesday’s Southeast Kansas League opener. The Pittsburg High Invitational was the first league designated tournament of the season.
Pittsburg won the 18-hole event on its home course with a 315 followed by Independence at 319, Coffeyville 335 and Parsons at 345.
Iola took fifth with a 360. Labette County shot a 364 followed by Chanute at 367, Columbus 382, Fort Scott at 404 and Pittsburg B at 702.
Kris Collins led the Mustangs finishing in a tie for 12th with an 84 (44-40). Weston Hines shot an 88 (44-44) and Zach Crawford carded a 90 (44-46).
Doug Stewart had a 98 (51-47) while Jarrett Mosbrucker and Nick Jacobs each shot 99s (50-49).
Pittsburg’s Jon Nichols was top medalist with a 69. His teammate Andrew Joy was second with a 76.
