Mustangs hold their own at Paola Invite

The Iola Mustangs held their own against larger foes Thursday. Next, they handle schools a bit closer to their size at Thursday's Anderson County Invitational.

PAOLA — The Iola Mustangs held their own with a few local powerhouses while competing in Thursday’s Paola Invitational.

As a team, the boys placed 11th while the girls placed 12th. 

They now turn their attention to Thursday’s Garnett Invitational at Anderson County High School.

Against larger schools, Iola had a handful of tenth-place finishes. Junior distance runner Keegan Hill took third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:40. 

Senior hurdler Maddox Riley took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.02.

Senior Mahailie Genoble took eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.54-seconds. Senior distance runner Ari Ramirez also clocked a solid time in the 800-meter run after taking eighth place in 2:52.56. Senior Faith Warden took sixth in the discus with a 95-foot, 6-inch throw.

4×100 Meter Relay (Finals): ninth, Iola – 47.72.

4×400 Meter Relay (Finals): ninth, Iola – 3:54.78.

4×800 Meter Relay (Finals): seventh, Iola – 9:25.24.

110 Meter Hurdles (Finals) sixth, Maddox Riley,18.02.
