MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s softball team had its hands full Monday against Northeast.
The visitors from Arma held Marmaton Valley’s offense in check throughout game one in an 8-1 victory.
Then, after the Wildcats jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the nightcap, Northeast rallied to take a 4-3 lead before scoring six in the fourth and 14 in the fifth of a 24-9 victory.
Aly Ard provided Marmaton Valley’s only offense with a single and triple. Her third inning triple drove in Khiana Haynes.
But Northeast, already leading 4-1, tacked on a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to seal the win.
Kendall Scharff struck out 11 over seven innings, but was plagued with 10 walks.
Madi Lawson walked twice for MV; Haynes walked once.
The Wildcats found their groove in the second game, with Scharff singling twice and doubling to lead the offense. Meanwhile, Ard and Payton Scharff each had a single and double. Tayven Sutton tripled and Lawson doubled.
Sutton pitched and allowed five hits as she pitched into the fifth, to go with 16 walks and two hit batters. Brooklyn Adams came on in relief. She allowed one hit and walked four. Kendall Scharff also pitched, walking two.
Marmaton Valley resumes play Thursday against Crest.
