THAYER — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s athletes kept up their winning ways Thursday, sweeping all six competitions in which they played.
The Wildcat volleyball teams went a collective 5-0 against Thayer and Altoona-Midway, while the Marmaton Valley Junior High football team rolled to a 40-0 win.
In volleyball, the Wildcat A-team downed Thayer, 25-15, 25-14, and Altoona-Midway, 25-16, 25-5.
In the Thayer win, Marmaton Valley was led by Trinitee Gutierrez with 16 points and Megan Ensminger with 10.
“Trinitee got us going in both games, with nine- and seven-point runs,” Wildcat coach Brenda Mills said.
Ensminger’s 10-point run included a nine-point run in the second game.
“We had a lot of long volleys, and we were able to win most of those,” Mills said.
In the win over the Jets, MaKayla Brooks had 17 points, including 13 in a row to finish the second game, followed by Ensminger with nine and Gutierrez with six.
“It was a great team effort all-around,” Mills said. “Trinitee and Megan had good nights serving, while the Brookses (MaKayla and Shayla) did a great job of setting each other up at the net. We had some big saves as well.”
The Marmaton Valley B-team defeated Thayer, 25-15, 25-16, behind Emily Smart’s nine points and Shailee Woods’ eight. The B-teamers also downed Altoona-Midway, 25-14, 25-10. Sarah Spillman rang up 10 points in a row to lead the way, followed by Karlie Stephens with eight, also scored consecutively.
In the C-team affair, Marmaton Valley downed Thayer, 25-14, 25-14.
Stephens had 12 points, followed by Lana Myers with seven.

THE MARMATON Valley football team has shown improvement on the season, improving to 4-1 with the win.
“We played good, fundamental football,” coach Dan Uhlrich said. “With two games left, much still needs to be worked on.”
The Marmaton Valley squads will be in Arma Thursday to take on Northeast.
