MVJH volleyball wins thriller

Marmaton Valley Junior High's volleyball team took a thrilling three-set win over rival Crest Thursday, coming from behind in the third and final set in the process.

COLONY — Marmaton Valley Junior High ended its 2023 volleyball season on a thrilling note Thursday.

The Wildcat A team rallied from a third-set deficit to defeat rival Crest Middle School 11-25, 25-23 and 15-13. Adisyn Pritchard was a catalyst in the tie-breaking set, serving up four straight points to erase a 13-11 deficit.

The second set was a nailbiter as well.

Crest led 15-11 at one point before Marmaton Valley seized the upper hand, courtesy of six straight points from Jetta Matthews. Reagan Marshall served up the final three points to win the set.

All told, Matthews led the way with nine points, Layla Cook scored seven and Pritchard had six. Alayna Cook and Kennlee Redburn each scored three. Marshall had three. Mary Burris scored two.

Marmaton Valley also prevailed in similar fashion in the B team matchup, winning 22-25, 25-14 and 15-11.

Mary Burris scored 19 points to lead the Wildcat B team. Clara Ferguson added three. Kenna Boone and Emily Heskett scored seven.

Statistics for Crest were unavailable.
