MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High picked up four hard-fought victories Tuesday against visiting Crest Middle School. MARMATON VALLEY’S boys got off to an 8-3 lead after one quarter. They pushed their 14-9 halftime advantage out of reach with a 14-6 third-quarter run.
The A team girls fought to a virtual standstill before Marmaton Valley outscored Crest 6-4 in the fourth quarter of a 27-25 victory. The Wildcat B team also prevailed, 14-3, in two quarters.
On the boys’ side, the Wildcat A team took control in the second half of a 38-25 victory, after winning the B team game, 34-25.
The Wildcats and Lancers were tied at 8-8 after one quarter in the A team game. The Wildcats held a 16-14 lead at half-time before Crest tied the game at 21-21 after three quarters.
Trinity Guttered was Marmaton Valley’s main catalyst with 17 points. Makayla Brooks followed with four points, while Megan Ensminger, Shayla Brooks and Clara Boyd had two each.
Three Lady Lancers provided all of Crest’s points. Makayla Jones scored 10 to lead the way, followed by Regan Godderz with eight and Kaitlyn LaCross with seven.
Paige Becker’s six points led the Wildcat B team. Shailee Woods and Kaitlyn Knavel added four each.
Brianna Trester scored two and Ridley Black one for the Lady Lancers.
Justice Pugh was largely responsible for the win with 20 points, followed by Trevor Wilson with 12. Tristan Fraker scored four and Korbin Smith two.
Gage Adams scored 13 to pace the Lancers. Caleb Stephens followed with six, Hayden Hermreck with four and Kadyn Utley with two.
In the B team contest, Caiden Elliott scored 14 and Gage Griffith 12 to lead Marmaton Valley. Isaac Heskett followed with six and Jordan Thompson had two.
Kanon Coberley scored eight for Crest. Hayden Seabolt, Utley and Brendon Hammer had four each. Austin Louk scored three and Hermreck two.
