Pratt thumps ACC women

An early 16-point run by Pratt did in Allen Community College’s women Wednesday.

The Red Devils scored the game’s first four points before the visiting Beavers started connecting from 3-point range early and often.

Pratt led 23-9 by the end of the first quarter and never looked back in a 78-51 victory.

Allen righted its ship in the second quarter, staying within shouting distance, but unable to get the deficit back into single digits.

Pratt led 35-19 at the half, then slammed the door on any hopes of a Red Devil comeback in the third quarter, erupting for 27 points to lead 62-31.

Allen’s K.J. Moore and Caleah Oliver gave the Red Devils a lift off the bench after intermission. Moore scored all 12 of her points, while Oliver scored seven of her 10  in the second half. Moore’s came on repeated drives to the hoop. Oliver’s came from farther out, hitting 3 of 4 3-pointers. They were the only two Red Devils in double figures.

Meanwhile, the Beavers hit 13 3-pointers. 

Aside from Oliver’s shooting touch, the Red Devils otherwise struggled from 3-point range. Oliver’s teammates combined to hit 3 of 18 treys.

Adji Mbaye pulled down seven rebounds to go with three assists. Yasmine Garcia also dished out three assists. Melody Wilfong had two steals.

Balanced scoring was the name of the game for Pratt, with eight players scoring between six and 12 points. Boo Zeller led the Beavers with 12.

Allen travels to Garden City Saturday.
