HUMBOLDT — Thanks to Mother Nature, it took an extra week to bring Pure Stock Pandemonium to the Humboldt Speedway — a delay that apparently sharpened the appetite of fans and drivers alike.
It was fitting, really, that two arch rivals, Derrek Wilson and Jared Hayden, shared the front row for the 25-lap/25-minute show, as they have gone to head to head multiple times this season. What wasn’t expected was the speed and determination of George Reimer and Jeremy Willard, who turned up the heat on the pacesetters.
In the end, Wilson took the win, slipping through lapped traffic just enough ahead of the others to have a comfortable lead by race’s end. Hayden was second, Willard third, Reimer fourth, and Derek Michael, out of retirement, in fifth.
John Allen put together another solid night to win his fourth USRA/McCarthy Auto Group feature in as many weeks. A different face claimed the runner-up spot this week: Travis Smith, as Ryan McAninch settled for third. Paden Phillips was a strong fourth, while Chase Sigg nailed down the fifth spot.
Jeremy Chambers had the perfect set-up to wire the field in the Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod feature. Randy Zimmerman, Blake Davis, Riley Whitworth and Andy Bryant completed the top five.
In another thriller in Factory Stock, Tyler James bested the field, with Jeremy Wilson second. Ason Thurman took fourth, and Patrick Kay fifth.
This Friday is the final USMTS Modified show of 2013 at the speedway.
