ARKANSAS CITY — Allen Community College’s men’s basketball team broke its three-game losing streak with an 82-76 win over Cowley on Saturday.
Coach Andy Shaw said the score was close the majority of the game. Allen led 39-35 at halftime. In the second half, Allen was able to get to a 12-point lead at 55-43. Cowley started to close the gap, but free throws helped Allen seal the win. It also helped that Josh Sweet made a pair of late 3-pointers to keep the Red Devils out in front.
ACC led the rebound battle, despite going with a smaller lineup due to injuries, 57-30. Allen’s Courtney Stockard scored a team-high 28 points and had 10 rebounds. Jordan Nanton scored 11 points and had 13 rebounds. Sweet finished with 14 points, while Jermaine Long and Darnell Jones-Bowie each scored 13.
Allen (14-12) is in first place in the Region VI Jayhawk East-I at 4-1, with one division game left Feb. 25 against Coffeyville. Allen is first in the Jayhawk East conference as well, with a 6-2 mark. Allen hosts Ottawa University tonight at 7.
