KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Allen Community College is three measly baskets away from battling this weekend to get to .500 in Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division play.
If, only.
In falling 61-59 Wednesday to host Kansas City, Kan., Community College , the Red Devils lost their third conference game of 2013 by two points.
Now, Allen (0-7 in conference play and 4-15 overall) will look to snap a nine-game losing streak this afternoon at home against Cowley College. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
The Red Devils were hurt by Kansas City’s 3-point shooting, head coach Andy Shaw said. The Blue Devils drained 11 of 23 from the 3-point line, including a barrage late in the first half to take a 30-26 lead into halftime.
“It was a back and forth game with teams exchanging the lead in both the first and second half,” Shaw said.
Shaw said Allen’s defenders followed their scouting reports well, limiting KCK’s Dominique Washington to nine points and nine rebounds. He averages 20 points and 10 boards a game.
In his stead, Antonio Winn drained five treys in the contest to key the win.
The Red Devils featured a balanced scoring attack led by Cameron Blue’s 15 points and six rebounds. Andrew Rountree added 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Ben Uno scored 11 points with five boards. DeAndrae Barnette had 10 points, while Tray Fountain had eight assists and six points. Seth Walden also scored six points.
