The Allen County men got their first conference win of the season Saturday, taking down Butler 102-95 in what ended up being their best shooting performance of the season.
The Red Devils were red hot from the three, hitting 8-12 to go with 40 of 46 free throws.
Though they trailed early, the Red Devils had a big run early in the half that pushed them past the Grizzlies. They would not trail for the remainder of the contest. Allen County led by six at the half, 53-47.
The Red Devils were able to stretch their lead to as much as 18 in the second half but a big Butler run fueled by Red Devil turnovers with eight minutes left in the game made things interesting.
Even with the run, Allen held strong and made several big plays late to get the win.
Sophomore guard Tyler Williams led the way with a season-high 29 points on 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and 15 of 16 from the free throw line. Jamaal Clifton scored 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting, including a huge three late in the game to help seal the win. Darius Love scored 14 points, and Cordy Winston and Jovares Jones also reached double figures with 13 points.
The Red Devils are now 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
Meanwhile, The Lady Devils have managed to keep it close in their losses earlier in the season but could not rein the Lady Grizzlies in, falling 87-57.
The Allen County women are now 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
Both the men and the women will hit the road on Wednesday to take on Barton.
