Red Devils blast Neosho in softball

CHANUTE — Allen Community College’s softball team found the road to its liking Thursday.
The Red Devils took control early in a pair of dominant performances, sweeping host Neosho County 11-1 and 8-0.
The opener was all Allen from the start.
The Red Devils poured in five runs on six hits in the first inning, including  a two-run single by Paige Rothwell and a run-scoring single by Bailey Burnett. The big blow was Maecy Charleston’s two-run triple.
Kaitlyn Rash got into the act in the second with a two-run home run, pushing Allen’s lead to 7-0.
The Panthers scored their run in the second before Allen plated four more in the fourth. Annie Gentry led off with a double. Taylor Easum reached on an error before Kaitlin Norris blasted a two-run triple. Rothwell capped the scoring with a two-run home run.
Audra Nelson gave up five hits and four walks in the complete game victory.
Rothwell and Rash each had two hits, including a home run. Easum singled twice. Charleston and Norris tripled. Gentry doubled. Lauren Poertner and Bailey Burnett had one single each.

THE RED DEVILS waited until the second inning to seize control in the nightcap, pouring in four runs. Charleston had an RBI double, Easum’s triple drove in two. Norris followed with an RBI single.
Burnett kick-started a two-run fourth inning with a leadoff double. An error preceded Easum’s RBI ground out. Norris doubled in a run, to push the lead to 6-0.
Burnett’s two-run single in the fifth pushed the lead to 8-0.
Rash pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight for Allen.
Norris, Rothwell and Burnett each had two hits, including a double. Mary Reilly had a single. Charleston had a double.
Allen played Pratt in a doubleheader Friday and will host Dodge City for a twinbill this afternoon, starting at 1 o’clock.
