The Allen Community College Red Devils’ losing streak hit four games following Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Johnson County Community College.

Despite holding their own with the JCCC Cavaliers for much of Saturday’s contest, the Red Devils could not keep pace as JCCC pulled away 2-0 early, then adding another goal in the second period to secure a 3-1 lead.

“They are No. 2 in the nation, and we’re not that far off,” Allen coach Jeremy McGinnis said. “We just need to put a whole game together. We’re good in 20-minute spurts, but there is a breakdown that always happens. We just need to put a whole game together.”

After going down 2-0 on a pair of goals separated by minutes, the Allen Red Devils put themselves on the scoreboard 5 minutes into the second period. Freshman center midfielder Mylee Schroader found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore striker Jillian Muehlberger to pull to 2-1. But that was as close as Allen would get.

With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 4-6-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. They hope to snap their four-game losing streak Wednesday, while facing Southeast Community College on the road, then host Jayhawk Conference rival Kansas City Kansas Community College (5-1, 10-2-1) Saturday at 2 p.m.

“We really have to put some wins together to get us some postseason opportunities,” McGinnis said. “Two teams don’t make it. We’re in that bottom area, so we have to win some games.”
