Allen County’s Red Devils closed out the first half of their season with two losses at Independence on Saturday.
The Allen County women fell 88-42.
Independence doubled-up on Allen in the first quarter scoring 20 and holding the Lady Devils to 10. The Pirates added 16 more in the second quarter while Allen County scored just nine making the deficit 36-19 at halftime.
Independence threw the death blow in the third quarter holding the Lady Devils to a game-low eight points while scoring 25 points to push its lead to 34. With the game out of reach, Allen had its best quarter offensively, scoring 15 while allowing the Devils’ worst quarter defensively with the Pirates scoring 27.
With the loss, the Lady Devils have lost six straight and 10 of their last 11 and fell to 3-10 and 1-8 in conference play.
Sophomore Kamri Summons was the lone double-figure scorer with 12 points while Jakira Wilson had nine.
Meanwhile, the men suffered a similar result to end their semester with a 90-73 loss.
Independence led 42-30 after the first half but the Red Devils made a run for a comeback in the second half matching the Pirates nearly point-for-point for the remainder of the second half until they ran out of time.
The Red Devils moved to 4-9 and 2-8 in conference play. The Independence loss is the third straight for Allen County.
The Red Devil starters didn’t exactly shine with Jamaal Clifton and Jacob Patterson both scoring nine points but Tevin Townsend (19 points) and Darius Love (15 points) led Allen County off of the bench.
