After flirting with a national ranking to start the season, Allen Community College men’s soccer team may be experiencing their first bout of adversity this season.

Following Saturday’s 3-0 loss to the unranked Southeast Community College Bobcats, coaches and players met for more than 20 minutes to discuss issues impacting the team.

“It was a team effort, and it has been a struggle,” Allen coach Gefte Blanc said. “We came out in this game really slow. Hopefully, we have a turnaround. We have a lot to do to get ready for the next game.”

Although hosting a lengthy postgame meeting to air grievances, it may be a bit too hasty to press the panic button just yet. The Red Devils’ slide began earlier this month, then they ended in a 2-2 tie with arch-rival Neosho County. They followed that up with a 3-0 loss to nationally-ranked Johnson County Wednesday before falling in another 3-0 loss Saturday.

“No loss is a good loss, but losing at home happens,” Blanc said. “It’s a wakeup call, that’s for sure. Two losses, back-to-back, we need to turn it around now. We have a lot to do moving forward.”

With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 3-2-2 on the season. They hope to get back on the right side of the win column Wednesday, when they head on the road for a game against the Kansas City Kansas Blue Devils.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
