Allen Community College is hitting its stride in the heart of its volleyball schedule.
The Red Devils completed a spotless run Friday and Saturday through the Allen Invitational Tournament at Riverside Park.
Allen’s 4-0 tournament record, with wins over Labette and Southeast Friday and Bacone’s junior varsity and Northeastern Oklahoma Saturday gives the Red Devils a six-game winning streak.
“What a showing,” head coach Jessica Peters said. “This was purely an earned week by the Lady Red Devils. Individuals improved, which allowed us to continue to put pieces together.”
The key to Allen’s success, Peters said, was ACC’s ability to rebound from mistakes.
“We had our share of errors, but we were able to move on and regain momentum in crucial times.”
Allen continues its frenetic schedule with a match tonight at home against Longview before trips to Kansas City, Kan., Wednesday and Bacone in Muskogee, Okla., Friday.
The Red Devils opened the tournament with a straight-set win over Labette, 25-12, 25-19, 25-18, and Southeast, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.
“We stepped up the level of play,” Peters said. “Labette’s match was a clean win. We looked balanced and effective across the net.”
Adrie Munoz charted seven kills. With Lizzy Huey and Sidney Keith, the Red Devils had too much firepower for the Cardinals. Keith racked up 12 kills in the match.
“We struggled to break away from Southeast,” Peters said, prompted by unforced errors. Sarah Charbonneau had 24 digs. Huey had nine kills.
Saturday’s opener was a dominating straight-set win over Bacone, 25-16, 25-5, 25-12. Danielle Goodman and Keith led the way with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Charbonneau had 24 digs.
In their second matchup within a week, Allen and NEO saw a similar outcome. The Red Devils won in four sets, 25-16, 14-25, 25-16, 25-23.
Goodman and Munoz both had 12 kills. Halley Scott had five aces. Charbonneau and Keith had 31 and 19 digs, respectively.
