Red Devils face arch-rival Wednesday

After a tough Friday in Miami, Oklahoma, the Allen Community College Red Devils hope to bounce back Wednesday, but that will not be easy against the 16th ranked Neosho Community College Panthers.

The Red Devils fell in consecutive five-set thrillers Friday while facing Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and John Brown University Junior Varsity in a triangular.

Allen opened against host school Northeastern in Miami, Okla., who took the first set 25-19, the second 25-15 and the fifth 15-10 while Allen won the second set in extra sets 28-26 and the fourth set 25-22.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Brummet had a team-leading 12 kills, followed by sophomore middle hitter Laurel “Grace” Larimore with 10 and freshman outside hitter Maria Santana with seven. 

Freshman setter Jaidyn Follis had a team-leading three aces, followed by freshman opposite side hitter Kahena Di Grazia with two.

On defense, sophomore libero Audrey Peek had a team-leading 33 digs, followed by freshman outside hitter Baylee Belt with 19 and Santana with 15. Sophomore middle hitter Chloe Curl, Larimore and Brummet had two blocks apiece.

The Red Devils wrapped up the evening against John Brown, who took the first set 25-8. Allen rebounded by taking the second and third sets, 25-22 and 25-21, but fell in the fourth and fifth sets25-18 and 16-14 in extra sets.

Brummet and Larimore tied for the team lead in kills with 11 each, followed by Belt with nine, then Curl and Santana with six each. 

Follis repeated her first-set performance with another three aces for the team lead, followed by Santana with two. 

On the other side of the net, Peek had a team-leading 27 digs, followed by Brummet with 18 and Belt with 16. Larimore led with four blocks, followed by Curl and Brummet with three each.

Following the weekend action, the Red Devils boast a 16-7 record. They’re fourth in the Jayhawk Conference standings at 4-2. 

They face conference foe and arch-rival Neosho County Community College, who comes into Wednesday’s contest ranked 16th in the nation with a 16-8 overall record and 3-3 in the Jayhawk Conference.
