The Allen Community Red Devils hope to avenge their latest loss when it matters most as they head to Cowley County Community College Wednesday for the opening round of the NJCAA Volleyball Plains District Regional Tournament.
The Red Devils lost to the CCC Tigers in straight sets in Wednesday’s regular season finale. They opened play with a 25-15 loss, but took the Tigers into extra sets in the second set setback, 27-25. The third set was a 25-11 disappointment.
Freshman outside hitter Lauren Brummet had a team-leading six kills, followed by freshman outside hitter Maria Santana with five and sophomore middle hitter Chloe Curl with four. Sophomore defensive specialist Camila Afonso had Allen’s only ace of the evening while freshman setter Jaidyn Follis tied Afonso for the team lead in assists with nine each.
Defensively, the Red Devils had six blocks with freshman outside hitter Baylee Belt and Curl tying for the team lead with two each. Sophomore libero Audrey Peek had a team-leading 17 digs, followed by Belt with seven, then Curl and Santana with four each.
With the loss, the Red Devils end the regular season 18-12 overall and 5-12 in the Jayhawk Conference, which ties them with Highland Community College for fifth place. They open the postseason as the sixth seed and face the second-seed Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cowley County.
