Red Devils’ Jones hurt in defeat

EL DORADO — Allen Community College dropped its second straight game Wednesday, falling two points shy in a 67-65 loss to Butler County.
But the Red Devil men’s score was secondary to head coach Andy Shaw’s primary concern on the night.
Sophomore Tyrone Jones hit his head on the floor after colliding with another player early in the second half.
Jones had a seizure on the court and was unresponsive for a few minutes.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with a possible concussion.
“He was actually upbeat on the bus ride home, so all looks to be OK there,” Shaw said.
Jones had scored 15 points before exiting with the injury.
As for the game, missed free throws in the second half told the tell.
Allen hit only 18 of 35 charities “that would have allowed us to gain control of the game,” Shaw said. Allen also shot a cold 1 of 12 from 3-point range.
“If a few of those shots go down, it would have been a different game,” he said.
After trailing by double digits in both halves, the Red Devils rallied to take a 65-64 lead with 1:21 to play.
Butler’s Larry Fitzgerald drew a Red Devil charging foul to give the Grizzlies the ball back with 43.2 seconds left. Shomari Triggs hit a floater with about 20 seconds left to give Butler a 66-65 lead.
Both teams missed a pair of free throws in the closing seconds before Bakari Triggs hit 1 of 2 charities with six seconds remaining. Allen could not get a shot off as time expired.
Raheem Tyner’s double-double paced the Red Devils. He scored 19 with 10 boards. Cody Sluder also had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
Trent Richardson scored 10 for Butler, followed by Shomari Triggs with 14 and Lamar Wofford-Humphrey with 10.
