Iola, Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Southern Coffey County and Waverly students were in rare form while going head-to-head at Monday’s Gene Farrow Invitational. Waverly High School played host at Iola’s Mustang Stadium.
The Iola Mustangs pulled down multiple top 10 finishes. Junior Keegan Hill took first in the 800-meter run after clocking a time of 2:07.67. Junior Austin Crooks took second in the triple jump with a 41’ 1” leap and second in the 200-meter junior varsity race. Sophomore Kevon Loving took fourth in the long jump with a 18’ 6.25” leap.
In girls action, senior hurdler Mahailie Genoble posted a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Previous state qualifier Keysha Smith showed she has returned to form with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash and senior Faith Warden out-threw last week’s Anderson County Invite champion teammate Bethany Miller while taking eighth in discus with a 93’ 3” throw.

For the Humboldt Cubs, senior thrower Carson Peters took first place in discus and fifth place in shot put. Emmitt Carson posted a 8’ 6” pole vault for eighth place. Lady Cub freshman Kara Culbertson made quite a splash with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200 meters. Junior thrower Jean Yumba took second in shot put.
Marmaton Valley juniors Cooper Scharff, Dagan Barney and senior Todd Stevenson took top 10 medals in multiple events. Scharff took third in the long jump. Barney took third in discus and Stevenson took fifth in the 100-meter dash.
In Marmaton Valley girls action, senior Kylah Sander took seventh in the 100-meter dash and sophomore Evva Sander took ninth in the 300-meter hurdles. Freshman Tayleigh Forman took eighth in the 3200-meter run clocking the course in 15:32.8.
Southern Coffey County’s senior John Rolf led the way with a first-place finish in the javelin after launching a 145’ 1” throw. Senior distance runner Trey Winn took fourth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:54.14. Freshman Madalynn Garretson was the only Titan to place in the top 10, taking ninth in the high jump.
